The Metaverse: Humanity's Future?
For you that don't know what the "metaverse" is, the metaverse is a virtual-reality space in which users can interact with a computer-generated environment and other users. Now that may sound like just a VR (Virtual Reality) online multiplayer game, but it is much more complicated. Think forward just a few hundred years from now. That is in our (somewhat) near future (compared to the dawn of life on earth). Technology is advancing so incredibly fast that just 40-50 years ago, computers didn't exist, now we have computers smaller than a credit card. Think about what will happen in the next couple hundred years. Think of Ready Player One's Oasis. The metaverse is similar to that, but to get there, you do not simply put on a headset, you upload your conscience into the system. There is no turning back. Once inside, you can live forever, doing whatever you want. All your information will be there, too, such as your memories. This may sound cool, but some aspects of it may make you rethink it. For starters, what if your the only one who wants to do it? Then, you'll be alone in the metaverse. Secondly, in the metaverse, not only can your financial information be hacked, but your life, your memories, and quite literally your identity, can be stolen.
